On Set with Erkan Gezginci: Exploring the Intricacies of Cinema
In today's interview, we had an enjoyable conversation with Erkan Gezginci, one of Turkey's experienced producers. Gezginci, who has over 20 years of experience in the film and television industry, shared his interesting journey from the beginning of his career to the present day. He talked about his career and the changes in the industry over the years.
- HELLO, MR. ERKAN, WELCOME.
ERKAN GEZGİNCİ: Hello, thank you. My journalism career, which started as a graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, gradually evolved into the cinema and TV industry.
- CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE TRANSITION FROM JOURNALISM TO CINEMA?
ERKAN GEZGİNCİ: My journalism career, which began in Izmir, took on a different dimension with my transition to the TV series industry after receiving an offer. Starting directly as a Production Manager without working as an assistant, under the influence of Berna Akpınar and Aytaç Abi, marked an interesting period.
- WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGING ASPECTS OF YOUR JOB?
ERKAN GEZGİNCİ: Managing many details on set and carrying the responsibility of a large team are quite challenging. Finding locations, assembling a team, organizing... All of these are part of the job and require significant responsibility.
- WHAT IS YOUR ASSESSMENT OF THE INDUSTRY'S DIRECTION?
ERKAN GEZGİNCİ: The rise of digital platforms is remarkable. Digitalization is now at the forefront alongside national broadcasting channels. I can say that cinema is also evolving towards digital. The industry seems to be expanding.
- CURRENTLY, YOU ARE WORKING ON PROJECTS LIKE "EYVAH RAMAZAN BEY" AND "ORGANIZATION IS OUR JOB." WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS?
ERKAN GEZGİNCİ: Our biggest expectation is to create projects that are liked and appreciated by the audience. Going through a creative process, reaching the audience, producing new projects, and successfully completing them are our greatest joys.
- HOW DOES THE BUDGETING PROCESS WORK FOR YOU?
ERKAN GEZGİNCİ: Budgeting is not just a matter of calculation; it is also a process that requires creativity. Keeping the director's vision within the budget, coming up with alternative solutions, and being creative in this process are important. It is a critical element for the success of the production.
